Essix/Flipper
Wear essix/flipper as much as possible for the first 72 hours after surgery. The
appliance helps with healing, acting as a band aid. It is normal for teeth to be
sore/sensitive due to the pressure. The more you wear the appliance the less
symptoms will be present.
- Do not bite into place as this can cause it to break or crack. Align & press with fingers into place using equal pressure on the left and right side.
- When removing stay over closed sink to avoid losing temporary tooth.
- The easiest tip for removal is start on left or right side get a fingernail under one side whether it be inside (tongue/palate) or outside (cheek), slowly break suction then work appliance around off other teeth.
- When not in use keep in case & away from pets! Do not put appliance on napkin or paper towel as you could potentially throw it away!
- Avoid exposing essix/ flipper to hot water, direct sunlight, or high heat sources.
- You may eat/drink with the appliance in, be cautious with hard & sticky foods as these are plastic temporary designed for aesthetic purposes.
- Dark foods & drinks can cause staining on the appliance & temporary tooth.
- Typically, the tooth is not glued in place to be able remove to clean easier. Clean them daily & after meals with a soft bristled toothbrush, antibacterial soap (Dial or Dawn) with cool water, avoid abrasive toothpaste or polident tablets overnight.
